ABOUT ME

Edidiong Idang started her career as a support staff in the House Committee on Women Affairs, in the Nigerian National Assembly, with a commitment to support the development of women and girls through effective legislations, education and capacity strengthening. A successful administrator, facilitator, coach and an author. Didi as she is fondly called has worked for Government, local and International Organizations covering various thematic areas including Education, Good governance, Inclusivity, Peacebuilding and conflict resolution. She has coordinated projects funded by the European Union and the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO). Didi is the founder of Initiative for Peace and Women’s right in Africa, a non-governmental organization whose thematic areas of intervention include: girl child education, Women in peacebuilding and Women in politics. As a certified self-discovery coach, Didi uses her skills to help young girls and women discover themselves and grow above their limitations. She recently published a self-motivational book called – “The waiting room- maximizing the time”. She is the host of a popular Podcast series – My mentor currently streaming on Spotify.

Background

Born on March 19, 1983, EdidiongIdang hails from AkwaIbom state, Nigeria. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Liverpool, UK.Edidiong is passionate about Education and self- development. She has acquired and continues to seek knowledge in the areas of conflict, stakeholders mapping and management, Leadership, Gender and development, project Management and languages. She studied and speaks French fluently.She is a wife and a mother to three adorable boys.

Career

With over 12 years working experience in the Development sector, Edidiong has grown steadily in her career with strong focus on Girl-child education, Women and Youth Empowerment, Disability Inclusion, Conflict management and peace building; and strengthening inclusive legislative processes. She has amassed a lot of skills and expertise working with different organizations and foreign Government institutions. She acquired her expertise with local and International Non-Governmental Organizations including ActionAid Nigeria, Child Finder Nigeria, Coalition for Human Development (CHD), FORDESH Africa, Westminster Foundation for Democracy, and other Humanitarian organizations such as The Albino Foundation to mention but a few. Edidiong is a trained facilitator and trainer. She is certified by the European Centre for Electoral support on ‘Leadership and Conflict Management Skills for Electoral Stakeholders(LEAD)’ having successfully trained over 100 young female politicians in Nigeria. With a certificate in Conflict Analysis from the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), Edidiong with her lead faculty, organized a training program in 2009 on“skills for effective conflict resolution’. The participants cut across legal officers, heads of training units in organization such as Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sao-Tome and Principe, Human Rights Commission as well as Clergy men. She is also a resource person for in-house Conflict Management trainings, one of which was organized for the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps in 2010. Edidiong is a trained Arfen Khan coach with experience as a self-discovery coach. She has used this skill to train young girls on self-awareness and empowerment. She is a media personality having hosted programs on radio Nigeria – including ‘Albinism in focus’ and a podcast program “My mentor” currently streaming on Spotify. Edidiong is a trained facilitator and trainer. She was recently certified by the European Centre for Electoral support on ‘Leadership and Conflict Management Skills for Electoral Stakeholders(LEAD)’ having successfully trained over 100 young female politicians in Nigeria. Having completed and obtained a certificate in Conflict Analysis from the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), Edidiong with her lead faculty, organized a training program in 2009, on the effectiveness of conflict resolution skills. The participants cut across legal officers, heads of training units in organization such as Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sao-Tome and Principe, Human Rights Commission as well as Clergy men. She is also a resource person for in-house trainings, one of which was organized for the Nigerian Civil Defence and Peace Corps in 2010. Edidiong is a team builder and her favourite quote is “Women raising Women”. She longs to see a world where women take the lead in conflict and peace talks while building strong support groups to advance their course. She is a wife and a mother to three adorable boys.
